Never getting it ALL done…

Our homeschool day is never the same.  Yet it does have the same crazy factor every week.  Us.  Imperfect humans that still have a human nature.
This past week has been stressful.  We came back from vacation.  NONE of us, wanted to come home.  This vacation was truly wonderful and relaxing.

• Monday:  
  We are swamped in laundry.  Don’t you love laundry?  I really do.  It makes me happy.  I’m thankful for the clothes that I find on sale and that my kids are healthy enough to get them dirty.  In the back of mind I’m glad my kids wear clothes and are not nudists.

Not to mention:  We also have hair everywhere!  Our dog has gone into major shed mode – we even had to buy a new vacuum.  I could stuff a whole line of teddy bears with the hair I have found.  How can a yellow lab shed enough for an entire pack of dogs and still have hair?  Someone on Twitter told me to add olive oil to Brighton’s diet.  I have.  Still lots of hair.  If you have a suggestion, I’d love to hear it!  Getting rid of the dog is not an option.  She is part of our crazy family!

• Tuesday:  
  We spent the entire afternoon at the eye doctor. It is really hard to teach when a person can’t see due to having their eyes dilated. Thankfully, this is just once a year.  We are going to miss our eye doctor.  She has taught my kids about their eyes.  Isn’t it neat to have a field trip and not even realize it?
  
• Wednesday:
  Our sweet friend in our homeschool group is moving, so we attended a going away party in the middle of the day.  This family has been such a joy to us. When we got home – 2 out of 5 kids took a long nap.  I had forgotten how much I love naptime for little kids.
  
• Thursday:
  We finally had a regular day. Sort of. We accomplished more this day than all the others combined. The kids were smiling. Dinner was accomplished. The chickens had their pen cleaned.  Did I mention the kids were smiling?
  
• Friday:
  Well, I had plans. This is our normal errand day.  But, due to the constant going this past week – we stayed in.  We did Bible, Reading, Writing, Arithmetic, Greek, Art and had friends over.  I’d say, it was a productive day overall.  Although, I still felt like there was more we could have accomplished.

All of these extra appointments and parties have taken time out of our regularly scheduled busyness.  In the back of my mind, I was a little concerned about missing so much bookwork in school.  As a homeschool Mom, I take my job seriously.  

I plan on having “sick” days.  I plan on having “errand” days.  I plan on having “vacation” days.  But, some days are just not planned and it gets to me. 

Some weeks we double up on “book work” or even do school on Saturdays.  My kids actually do “school” every minute of their lives – they just don’t realize it.  (Don’t tell!)
I have to remember that I’m not a public school teacher.  We homeschool.  We are different than main-stream education.  In reality, we are really “un-schoolers.”  But, according to the trend of that term – we are really not full fledged “un-schoolers.”  I like some traditional book work. 

I do know that I follow our state laws in homeschooling.  In fact, I go over and above what is called of me.  But, I really don’t care about the state laws as much as I care about my children’s well and spiritual being.

I want to give them the tools to make a living in life.  Giving them a “Hope” when all else seems uncertain, is more important.  Who really wouldn’t want to know that their future can hold an absolute certainty?

I’m just sharing my heart and showing what truly goes on in our homeschooling week.

• We are not perfect.
• We don’t have it “ALL” together.
• We have messy closets.
• We hide our dirty clothes.
• Sometimes we hide our “clean” clothes.
• We love grace.
• We love Jesus.
• We love do-overs.
• We are a work in progress.
• We love God’s mercy!

When all else fails, we lean on the One who never fails.

So I end with a scripture: 

Matthew 11:28-30
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened,
and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,
for I am gentle and humble in heart,
and you will find rest for your souls. 
For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.
